Wipro and Mapiq create smart workplaces
Wipro will integrate Mapiq into their Internet of Lighting (IoL)TM Smart Building Proposition. For Mapiq, this partnership represents the global ambitions of the company. The agility and innovation of this Dutch company combined with the experience and service of one of the world’s most recognised technology companies make a promising formula for a global rollout. The first Smart Workspaces in India arising from this partnership are expected to go live before the summer of 2019.
Over the last five years, workspace transformation in India has been mainly driven by cost related to real estate. While this cost continues to be a huge driver, a significant underlying factor that has emerged is the cost of attracting, engaging, retaining and growing human capital.
Anuj Dhir, Vice President & Business Head, Commercial Lighting Business of Wipro
"A productive, happy employee is the foundation for the biggest ROI for a company. Mapiq is the perfect partner to meet this challenge.”
The talent pool moves from industrial to emerging markets
The partnership is well-timed, as India is poised to become one of the biggest markets for educated talent. In the last decade, rapidly growing nations like India and China syphoned many low-wage and relatively unskilled manufacturing jobs from the developed world. In the coming decade, these nations will move up the skills ladder as they improve access to high-quality education. A demographic swell, accelerating economic growth, and technology-enabled training will also contribute to the dramatic rise in the college-trained talent that developing markets produce.
The impact of the global distribution of talent will be influential. Already, over half of the world’s college graduates (54%) come from the top emerging markets. Over the next decade, the percentage of college graduates will rise to 60% in these countries—some 217 million workers, as opposed to 143 million in the developed world. Perhaps most informatively, within those ten years, China will overtake the US as the country with the largest single pool of educated talent, and India may as well.
Workplace technology is essential to retain good talent
If businesses wish to compete and retain good talent today, they must offer a workspace that is both modern and appeals to their working style of talent. The new generation of top talent often has radically different expectations of their working environments than those from the mid- to late-20th century. The current generation of top talent is redefining what an optimal workday holds and the changing way we engage with workspaces is at the heart of this transformation.
Mapiq believes that technology is an essential factor in the user-friendliness of these workplaces. It is the missing link that can make activity-based workspaces actually function as designed. From their headquarters in Delft, the Netherlands, Mapiq creates a unified, cloud-based platform that helps activate the true potential of employees optimise workspace.
Mapiq’s software platform shows the office building on an interactive 3D map. Employees can use Mapiq to book rooms, find their way around the building, search for free workplaces, find colleagues and much more. It works like personalised Google for the Smart Workspace. Facility managers and building owners can use data collected by Mapiq to make well-thought-out decisions about their office spaces.
Sander Schutte, Founder and CEO of Mapiq
"Not only did we gain a technically skilled partner in Wipro Lighting, but we also found an ally in our quest to realise our vision for the future of offices."
